CONFIRMED: Paul Kelly was seen trying to tell MPD to arrest students. MPD refuses to arrest anyone until they meet with the student leaders. Kelly reportedly furious and screaming.
Most students are currently at the MSSD gates. The administration and student leaders are still in a meeting.
One injured student has a possible fracture of his knee/leg. Three students were taken to the hospital with the aid of Kathy Wood (see her post over at Mishka Zena’s site…) and DPS did nothing… when they were asked b y ambulance workers if students were injured, they said, “No,” despite blood being on the ground mere yards away. Brian Morrison’s toe was actually injured by the gate when it was dragged open by DPS.
DPS and PPD woke students up initially by throwing construction materials at the tents (heavy pipes, wood pieces, etc), and then bulldozed the tents down WITHOUT CHECKING TO SEE IF STUDENTS WERE INSIDE.
Suzy Rosen-Singleton had an argument with DPS chief Mel Batten-Mickens, and asked why they were not warned before this took place, despite MBM’s promise to inform them beforehand. MBM said “We didn’t arrest anyone. We would just warn you before arrests took place. There were no arrests.” Upon being pressured further, MBM said she didn’t want to talk anymore and left the scene.

According to an administration official, no MPD report was filed, so MPD cannot investigate into the alleged claims about PPD or DPS hurting students.
If students have been hurt today, then they need to file a police report with the MPD so they can investigate into the claims.

Pingback by These are very disturbing « Mishka Zena 25 October, 2006 @ 6:27 pmPPD or DPS must NOT to throw any heavy pipes, wood pieces at the tents. Any persons in the tents could get physical injury. If any person gets the HEAD injury, this person will file lawsuit against the Admin., PPD or DPS.

Comment by bibliomarket 25 October, 2006 @ 6:37 pmIf as it seems, staff were throwing metal pipes onto tents and riding bulldozers over them without checking to see if there were students inside, then that is an offence of potentional or attempted manslaughter.
This is a very serious situation.
Comment by tentcityuk 25 October, 2006 @ 7:19 pmStill do not understand why Jordan and some people in Administion Department want to open those two gates, Kendall and MSSD while the second gate on Florida Ave had been never mention. They appeared that they were not thinking of kids near MSSD and Kendall gates. Do they care about Jordan’s house near the Florida 2nd gate? Do they care about people in College Hall? They could have open the second gate, it would be more room and safer than MSSD gates (curve and hilly road).
Is that odd? Any leader would pick a better gate and care but Jordan and others are not!!
Comment by anonymous 25 October, 2006 @ 9:48 pmThis lady who shrugged and refused to believe, refused to concern about injured students. She may be one of DPS and PPD who had hurt protesters. I think she should not work at DPS. Gallaudet does not need hearless DPS on the campus like her.
