For Immediate Release
At the present time, the Gallaudet protest leadership has not announced
any plans to go to the Dulles Hyatt today. The media will want to go to
Gallaudet to interview protesters.
The Dulles Hyatt is not allowing media into the hotel, though media
personnel would probably be able to go in cognito, especially if they
paid for a hotel room (about $229 per night.) Be careful, since there
may be, and probably are, undercover police officers carefully watching
the lobby. The elevator can only be used with a plastic room key.
Every indication is that the Gallaudet Board is meeting this morning in
a conference room at the Dulles Hyatt, though this has not been
officially confirmed. Yesterday there were nine separate groups using
the conference rooms at the Dulles Hyatt. Hotel employees have been
carefully coached to deny that the Gallaudet group is there, but of
course, the Hyatt did acknowledge they were there when they gave the
protesters permission to use part of the Hyatt property.
Calling the national reservation number for Hyatt produced the
following
information on reservations for the Gallaudet Board group. Members of
the press who call would have to pose as a member of the party in order
for the Hyatt operator give them access to the information.
The confirmation number is 63586952, and there are 24 pages of computer
screen info regarding the group reservations.
Any of these people will be able to receive faxes sent in their name to
the hotel. Faxes sent in the name of the Board might possibly be
confiscated and destroyed by Patti Kunkle (Board Liaison), as there is
a
clause in the bylaws of the Board of Trustees saying that all
communications to the Board must go through the Gallaudet President’s
office.
The fax number for the Dulles Hyatt is: Fax: (703) 713-3410
According to Tia, a clerk at the front desk, they would be willing to
deliver the fax to the conference room where the person is meeting, if
you specify the person’s name and the group’s name (call it the
“Gallaudet Board of Trustees meeting”). The phone number for the front
desk is (703) 713-1234 . Tia was not asked to acknowledge that the
Gallaudet Board is there.
Board members are designated with a star next to their names.
(Notice the presence of Duan Banks and Vivian Stevens from the
Gallaudet
President’s office, indicating the influence and control that King
Jordan has over the group, in violation of the Education of the Deaf
Act
of 1986)
Only two reservations were scheduled to arrive FRIDAY:
1) Harvey Goodstein* (Arizona, wife Astrid) hgoodstein@cox.net
2) Kimberly Turnage (See http://cart.ncraonline.org/About/ Turnage is
apparently the stenographer who is providing live captioning of the
meeting, so that the deaf members can instantly read on the screen what
the non-signing hearing members are saying.)
The following people were areall scheduled to arrive at the hotel on
SATURDAY
(Some of them have only ONE night, some of them have TWO nights and
will
check out Monday morning:)
3) Pamela Lloyd-Ogake* (North Carolina, formerly, Pamely Lloyd)

4) Richard Kinney* (Wisconsin) lrkinney@wi.rr.com
5) Ken H. Levinson* (California) (Sat overnight only–He will probably
be fleeing the scene, due to his controversial comment that he always
thought deaf people who used sign language were “dumb.” He is an oral
deaf person and is currently a Board member of the Alexander Graham
Bell
Association–a group which has historically been hostile to the goals
and aims of Gallaudet, going back to the 1800’s:

Note: Frank Wu*, Board member from Michigan,is apparently not on the
reservation list. frankhwu@wayne.edu
We can assume that Patricia Kunkle, Jordan’s right-hand woman, is at
the
hotel, as a liaison (and agent of manipulation) of the Board:
Patti.kunkle@gallaudet.edu
It is unknown at present whether Jane Fernandes is at the meeting
( Jane.Fernandes@gallaudet.edu)
I. King Jordan has a seat on the Board, but does nothave a vote. It is
unknown at present if he is at the meeting ( president@gallaudet.edu).
He did not appear to be on the reservation list. In the past, there
have been clear indications that Jordan has pre-determined all the
outcomes of the Board’s votes through behind-the-scenes maneuvering.
Board Secretary, Bill Graham, admitted during a meeting in his office
at
Microsoft last July that he (Graham) does little work for the Board and
merely shows up to sign papers at meetings. Graham is in close contact
with Jordan through pocket pager and idolizes him. Whether the Board
has taken it upon themselves to act independently of Jordan today, is
unknown.
Congressional members of the Gallaudet Board of Trustees:
The Honorable Ray LaHood*, Illinois The Honorable John McCain*, Arizona
The Honorable Lynn Woolsey*, California
Are all three are actual voting members of the Gallaudet Board of
Trustees. According to a staff member of LaHood’s office last week,
LaHood will not be attending the meeting and will not return to
Washington DC until November.
John McCain *may* not even know about the Gallaudet controversy. He has
issued no statements. His staff person (first name Talal, has not
returned messages). His office was contacted by the Washington Post
some days ago, and McCain did not respond.
Lynn Woolsey may actually be at the meeting today. Two of her staff
members, Llyod Horwich (Lloyd Horwich Lloyd Horwich
<lloyd.horwich@mail.house.gov>) and Gena (spelling?) were actively
collecting information on Gallaudet last week and were meeting with
protesters and Board members. Lynn Woolsey met with a delegation of
protesters who flew out from California. The California group is also
in close contact with Rep. Pete Stark (CA).

Mc Cain does know about the situation. He had a meeting with Arizona GUAA’s Vice President, per my source in Phoenix last Friday. He returned to DC last Thursday night.

New search process = ?

It was never just about Jane. Read Bob Johnson’s open letter (and the failed PART report) for an intro to why the whole admin and governance system needs an overhaul. Those of you with incriminating evidence, get a lawyer and make your case NOW!

Subject: Office of Public Relations – Gallaudet’s Board of Trustees votes to terminate Dr. Jane Fernandes’ appointment as president
To: “public.relations@gallaudet.edu”
TO: Campus Community
FROM: Board of Trustees
DATE: October 29, 2006
RE: Board of Trustees Meeting
“Today, we announce with much regret and pain that after serious deliberation in a special, all-day Executive Session of the Board of Trustees, we have voted to terminate Dr. Fernandes’ appointment as President-Designate (currently effective) and President (effective beginning January 1, 2007) at Gallaudet University.
We understand the impact of this decision and the important issues that inherently arise when a Board re-examines decisions in the face of an on-going protest. The Board believes that it is in the best interests of the University to terminate Dr. Fernandes from the incoming President’s position.
Although undoubtedly there will be some members of the community who have differing views on the meaning of this decision, we believe that it is a necessity at this point. The Board is continuing to meet to discuss transitional issues. It has certainly been a difficult and trying time for our Gallaudet community. Now is the time for healing. The hope of the Board of Trustees is for our beloved community to come together to work for a stronger and better Gallaudet.”
